The Foundation recently received a $25,000 donation from a supporter. While they wish to remain anonymous, what this generous couple does want to share is the impact that Rock Island County Extension and 4-H had on their family. Reflecting on their life and the people and programs that had a lasting impact, Rock Island County 4-H, Extension and HCE programs are at the top of their list. Their children learned many skills as they worked on their 4-H projects. They have fond memories of going to the county and state fairs with 4-H. The mother’s life continues to be enriched as a long-time member of Rock Island County HCE where she enjoys lasting friendships and “Lessons for Living”.

see it continue for future generations.
This momentous gift captured the imagination of our Foundation Board. They wanted to see this gift put to use providing for the future and creating an avenue for others to contribute to something lasting — just like Extension programs had for this family—and now for generations to come.
Our Foundation’s board of directors felt the best way to honor their legacy was to utilize the $25,000 donation to establish The Rock Island County Extension & 4-H Education Foundation Endowment through the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.
An Endowment provides a permanent source of support in perpetuity. Unlike annual fund donations, which are vital to day-to-day operations, gifts to the Endowment will benefit our organization and the people it serves, forever. Donors may add their support to help grow the funds, which are pooled with the Community Foundation’s endowed assets, which now total $57.3 million. This practice allows for greater efficiency and protection against fluctuations in market value, as well as enhanced earning power.
Over time, earnings from the Endowment will provide a steady stream of resources, enabling us to accumulate funds for renewal and enhancements of Rock Island County
4-H and Extension programming. Each year a portion of the investment earnings is available for our use in meeting ever-changing needs.
Your gift today will continue to grow for many generations.
The Foundation’s goal in the first year is to match the $25,000 start-up funds with community donations, bringing Endowment assets to $50,000. Donations to the Endowment are tax deductible to the full extent of federal and state law.
We will be happy to provide you with more information about how you can help provide a secure, permanent source of funds for the enrichment and stability of 4-H and Extension programs in Rock Island County. The Community Foundation can also provide information on additional ways to give, such as minimum IRA distributions, life insurance beneficiary, gift annuities, real estate, planned gifts through will or bequest, and other complex forms of gift arrangements.
