Essential Elements of 4-H

4-H assists young people in becoming healthy, problem-solving, constructive adults. Using the Essential Elements, 4-H creates opportunities and environments that meet young people's needs and build life skills.

Belonging—youth don’t join 4-H, they belong! There are over 400 active members in Community, SPIN and After School Clubs in Rock Isalnd County.

4-H offer opportunities to experience Mastery. As youth create projects for the fair or join the Special Interest Clubs where they concentrate on one area of interest, they are developing mastery in an area they are passionate about - whether horses or babysitting, 4-H offers a wide range of opportunities!

4-H’s emphasis on citizenship allows members to experience Generosity - as active and engaged citizens, while working on community service projects.

4-H offers the chance to experience Independence

- from teaching younger members, to assisting at 4-H events, youth have opportunities to learn to make good choices and practice leadership skills.
